There are very
few duties, which require a higher discharge current from
a battery in relation to its normal capacity than starting
of diesel-electric locomotives.
The very heavy starting currents involved demand a battery
that has a greater performance than any other battery of the
same capacity and is also capable of withstanding vibration
and physical shocks encountered under the arduous conditions
of railway service. Such Batteries are manufactured by Exide
at its plant at Haldia, near Kolkata (Calcutta), India. |
